Hong Kong – 24th September, 2015 – The hedge fund industry in Asia is investing in improving professional skills to help cultivate talent and support the development of a more sustainable industry, according to senior industry professionals. The comments came as TORA, the leading provider of advanced trading technology and financial services, today announced that it will partner with the Henley Business School and its Executive Hedge Fund Program in Hong Kong.
The pioneering program, established by the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) Centre at Henley Business School, seeks to advance the Asia hedge fund industry by equipping financial services professionals with knowledge and understanding of the industry through a set of module training courses. The modules range from Fund Administration, Ethics & Corporate Governance, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance, through to Portfolio and Risk Management.
“We are excited to support this landmark program, which will allow professionals to expand their knowledge across trading and operations in hedge funds,” said Chris Jenkins, APAC Managing Director. “Investing in education is absolutely crucial to growing the industry in Asia and TORA is pleased to assist by sharing our insight, drawn from years of experience in the Asia hedge fund industry.”
TORA will sponsor the program and will also provide module training with a focus on straight-through-processing (STP).
New hedge funds in Asia raised a record $5.3bn in the first half of 2015, close to the entire amount raised in 2014, according to AsiaHedge. Macro funds attracted the bulk of investment. With increased capital inflow into the region, it is more crucial now than ever to invest in education within the industry, according to industry professionals.
Neil Logan, Director, Asia Pacific for Henley Business School said, “Innovation and education is at the heart of sustaining and evolving the Asia hedge fund industry. The timing is right for individuals and the industry to invest and improve skills, as the hedge fund industry will only continue to expand in the region.” The program’s mandate is to empower individuals with the latest practices and insight from the hedge fund industry. This will ultimately benefit the industry by, for example, improving efficiencies, attracting additional capital and attracting more talent, Logan said.
Steve Bernstein, Program Advisor, “The program is an industry game-changer and will allow the financial community, including companies such as TORA, to play a direct role in advancing the Asia hedge fund industry. From learning about trade processing to regulatory considerations, participants will be taught highly specialist and relevant skills that are needed to build a long-term career in the industry.”
